Commuter students are not required to purchase a meal plan but are encouraged to do so as we offer great value, variety and flexibility with our Choice Plans and Block Plans.   Unused Block Meal Swipes and Declining Balance Points never expire for as long as you are a student at Simmons.

Simmons Commuter Meal Plans:
  • Choice Plans with Declining Balance Points and
  • Block Plans with Meal Swipes and Declining Balance Points
Block Plans with Meal Swipes allow students to purchase meals at a lower cost per meal than if they paid with cash or credit card.  Each Block of Meal Swipes may be used at any of our dining locations. Students enjoy All-You-Care-To-Eat style dining for each Meal Swipe redeemed at Bartol Dining.  When Meal Swipes are redeemed at The Fens Café, Common Grounds Café and Meyers Café, students are offered a cash equivalency of up to $5 for Breakfast and up to $8 for lunch or dinner for each Swipe.  Not all items available for purchase may be purchased with a Meal Swipe.  If the total purchase exceeds the cash equivalency amount, students can pay the difference with DB Points, Cash or Credit.

The Bursars Office is looking to work with you as you pay your bill. Many students and families take advantage of the monthly payment plan through Nelnet (formerly TMS) to cover the cost of tuition or to supplement any remaining balance not covered by financial aid or loans. The monthly payment plan is an interest-free alternative to lump-sum payments at bill time. Such arrangements must be made well in advance of the bill due date to avoid late fees.

If you are interested in utilizing parent or student loans to help cover the cost of the commuter meal plan, please reach out to Student Financial Services (SFS).  We have already had discussions with SFS staff and, due to individual student circumstances,  they are best able to help guide you through what options are available to you.
